Hi all
I am worried about DS - about a week and a half ago he had a nasty sickness bug and ever since I have been unable to get him to eat anything 'proper'. He has been surviving on bits of toast, cubes of cheese and grapes! He is 2 yrs 4 months and big for his age and he usually has a good appetite - I have been making different things for him but he will try nothing! I am worried as he has lost a bit of weight! Anyone got any ideas?

Sounds like you are doing all the right things. Has he now got into habit of snacking maybe (you didn't say whether he was eating toast etc at mealtimes or generally throughout day). I would just make sure he only eats at mealtimes, offer him drinks inbetween and just keep feeding him what you did before. Try not to make a fuss about what he is eating (or not!). If he refused the food simply take it away and offer the grapes etc. He won't starve. He may still be feeling a little off colour. Sickness bugs can leave you feeling horrible for ages. I wouldn't worry. If he is still refusing to eat properly in a couple of weeks or so I would then get tough! Good luck!

my DD (4) had this a couple of months ago. she was sick for 24h or so and then wouldn't eat properly for another week to two weeks. it built up slowly on her eating normally again. it was very worrying at the time. we did stick with food she loved for a while and then moved onto other regular food.

Try giving him a tonic like Minadex - works wonders to build them up again and get their appetite back.

My ds had the same bug, did not eat for about 10 days, now he is eating loads. Do not worry. Cut the snacks though until he starts eating his meals!

thank you all for the advice! I feel a bit better now and he slowly seems to be getting his appetite back!
