crawling question

DS is trying so hard to crawl but rather than stay on his hands and knees he's pushing himself up onto is toes. He's not worked out that he needs to move his arms and just ends up nodding back and forward for ages before falling over. I wondered how long this might last for or does it just vary wildly? He's getting really frustrated.

How old is he? He may never crawl at all. At 2.1 years my son still doesn't do what I'd call a proper call. Of course now he runs everywhere anyway!

He's almost 7 months. I thought I might enjoy the him being able to sit and support himself bit for a bit longer but he just falls from sitting to front and keeps on doing the pushing up thing.

That phase was a few weeks long for DS, but babies vary so wildly and it's all experimentation until they find something that works. DS occasionally still pushes himself into that position, but now it means he wants me to flip him over in a forward roll! It's a frustrating time because you KNOW what he needs to do, but he needs to find out by trial and error.

I don't think there's much you can do except encourage him to try and crawl! They do get very frustrated, don't they?

DD went through various stages of this but suddenly got proper crawling just after 8 months - she's now 11 months and zooms around at scary speed!

thank you :) so I could be looking at a few more weeks. He has such strong legs but always hated tummy time so maybe his legs are just much stronger than his arms and they need to catch up.

Could be a few more weeks...could be tomorrow! Babies!!!

I can't stand the anticipation and he's having a hard time with the frustration and the whacking his head on the floor!

Twas a few months of this behaviour for my DD as she didn't try to crawl everyday - she wasn't hugely bothered but then sometimes she'd try and get frustrated. At 10 months she perfected a crab crawl rather than a nice elegant crawl like her mates!

My ds did this for a while but he soon realised that wont get him anywhere, he started crawling properly at 9 months.

DD was 'bounce crawling' the sitting in crawl position bouncing not sure what to do from there crawl from 4 months to around 5 months then 'mooncrawled' backwards for four days them boom she was off like a shot at about 5 and a bit months there was no stopping her! my friends wee girl on the other hand didnt move at all till 11 months when suddenly she 'slithered' around, within a couple of weeks she was crawling and now at 13 months is trying to walk all the time tho she cant quite support herself yet but if you hold her hands she is off :) all babies are different your DS will get there.

Don't worry too much, just start child proofing before he can crawl

just in case anyone wanted to know because I an so proud of my PFB he finally crawled last weekend. :) I sent him to my mum's on monday and spent a couple of hours childproofing!
