hes my 3rd child, 19 months and not saying a word.

Hes bright in all other ways, can walk, eun, spin round, kick a ball and understands everything we say (get your drink, turn the tv off, find your shoes etc etc).

I dont know what to expect or how it will go.

Has anyone else had a child not speaking at thus age?

Our SALT has been fantastic, she has made an enormous difference to ds2s life .To be honest it's not just tha speech for him it has been the language element, she has really helped his expressive language and his understanding of language .

I agree that 19 months seems young for SALT referral. My dd wasn't saying many words at all at 2 yrs (and certainly wasn't joining any words together) but the GP, HV and development consultant (that she saw because of her epilepsy) didn't seem hugely concerned.

I was very worried because most others her age seemed to be so much more advanced. Her talking is coming along now at 2.8yrs although still only two and three words together and quite indistinct. The SALT that she has seen 4 or 5 times seems to think she's ok and just developing at her own pace.

I think between yrs 2 and 3 there is often a real leap in language -so your DS has got ages to go.

I would say "don't worry" but my DD's late talking has caused me lots and lots of worry - so I'll just say that I know exactly how you feel!
