Oh - and when do babies start to regularly imitate and clap?

Exactly that.

My DS has clapped from about 8 months. Now 12m and will clap in all right places to songs like if you're happy and you know it.
Imitates? Wants to everything big Sis does. Giving me a sideways look when touching something he shouldn't!

winnybella · 29/06/2011 16:53

DD did it from 5 or 6 months.

carpetcleaningwizard · 29/06/2011 16:55

Clapped - properly clapped - at 5 or 6 months?!!!

OP posts:
realhousewifeofdevoncounty · 29/06/2011 16:55

My dd has just started to wave back at us. She is coming up to 6 months. At first I thought is was just coincidence, but she definitely does! And now she even waves when someone just says hello or goodbye. Of course I think she must be a genius - but she is my PFB! Grin

RitaMorgan · 29/06/2011 16:59

Mine didn't clap til 10 months, doesn't wave yet (almost 11 months). He imitates one thing (when you go aaahh and pat your open mouth - don't know what the technical term is!) for a couple of months but doesn't imitate anything else.

MayDayChild · 29/06/2011 17:44

We call that red Indians Rita !
He loves that! !

winnybella · 29/06/2011 17:57

Hmm, yes, I recall being quite astounded because they're supposed to be doing it later...she's 2.5 and not a genius afaik, though Grin

NotJoiningIn · 29/06/2011 19:44

DD started clapping this week (7 months). She does it for music and cheers and to copy me but can't open her hands so claps with closed fists Grin! No waving yet though!

JoinTheDots · 30/06/2011 16:43

Open hand clapping and copying noises and movement from 9 months for DD

Wallace · 30/06/2011 20:29

7 month old ds3 waves, claps (but with fists) and has just started to copy ds2's loud shouts.

He also likes to feed me what he is eating...yum!

NigeltheFuckwit · 30/06/2011 20:32

I would have said 7-8 months but I'm a terrible mother who didn't even record these milstones for PFB never mind poor old DS (NSC).

NickNacks · 30/06/2011 20:32

DD is coming up for 10 mths and had clapped since about 8.5mths and in the last few days will copy facial expressions such as squinting eyes to make a funny face (don't ask!- i didn't expect her to copy me!) and poking tongue out etc.

CountBapula · 30/06/2011 20:39

At 9 months my DS will grab my face and slobber on it when I ask him to give me a kiss Grin

He started clapping about a week ago. He also flings one arm about - I think he's trying to wave ...

DesperateHousewife21 · 01/07/2011 10:57

DS is nearly 12months and doesnt clap/point/wave. Well hes waved a handful of times but never does it reliably.

Cosmosis · 01/07/2011 12:50

DS is coming up to 10m and has waved once (well as count says he flung an arm around!) and hasn't clapped yet. He does copy some facial expressions though - does a lovely "fish face" Grin. I am convinced however that he said bye bye to me yesterday. He does a good line in licking though, which I think are supposed to be kisses.

Paschaelina · 01/07/2011 12:54

Boy will copy head movements - waggles, tilts to side etc at 9.5 months. He hasn't clapped yet but then I haven't clapped much at him either.

monkoray · 01/07/2011 13:11

OP - My DS didn't learn to clap until after his first birthday and he is otherwise developmentally normal. I just wanted to post as there seem to be a lot of babies on this thread who have clapped/copied very early and i wanted to reassure you that you can also have ones that do it late who are also developing fine.

Lovethesea · 01/07/2011 20:13

12 months for DS too for clapping - a couple of weeks ago Grin. Also now pointing and waving a bit too. So proud.

Have utterly forgotten when DD did it.

pinkypig · 02/07/2011 06:29

13 months here.

DialMforMummy · 02/07/2011 07:00

9 months for mine

SheCutOffTheirTails · 02/07/2011 07:06

Nigel me neither. They can both clap now, and that's all that matters :o

NSC - something second child? Help me out! :)

NigeltheFuckwit · 02/07/2011 20:05

ShecutoffTheirTails - "Neglected" Wink

Rubyabcd · 03/07/2011 18:43

DD clapping, pointing and waving at twelve months!!

breatheslowly · 04/07/2011 14:58

DD is nearly 10mo and waves at DH and only DH Envy, doesn't really clap and doesn't obviously imitate anything else.

elsiewoo · 05/07/2011 21:42

Ds 11 months just started clapping doesn't wave, point or copy yet ...
