When do you start worrying about development??

I know you shouldn't compare to other babies and every child develops at their own pace blah blah blah but I just can't help it! My son (just 4 months) is still very floppy compared to his little mates and doesn't have a very straight back. I'm trying to be patient but not sure when to start worrying about this, and other development issues???

Hi Sally. Have you mentioned your concerns to the Health Visitor at the baby clinic? Its hard not to compare with other children but they should know any warning signs. Try not to worry

floppy is enough of warning sign to get it checked out with your GP
My dd was floppy and we got physio quite early to help.
It may not be anything to worry about, but you are worrying therefore you should get it checked if nothing but to set your mind at ease.

Whenever you have a worry flag it up. If you're not happy with the answer from your HV try your GP and vice versa. I've found that the understanding of developmental issues varies from non-existent to extremely good in general pros such as HV and GP's.

Sally, my word of advice is that if anything concerns you then do not hesitate to talk to your GP/HV, if there is nothing to worry about then they will let you know and that will be the end of it. Don't feel that your questions or worries are not worth the GP's time, specially when it comes to your baby. Also, I think that there is nothing wrong in comparing your little one to other babies as long as you do it within reason and not in a competitive manner (others may disgree with this point of view though).

(small hijack back- no worries- glad you saw it- was worried you'd already gone- if you have any other concerns after the appointments etc or anyway you can always ask on the SN section- lots of experiences there).
