5 month old baby loves breast. Help!

my 5 month old will only go to sleep on my breast. Won't take a tummy and if I put her in her crib she screams like she is in pain.
How do I get her to fall asleep by herself now? Please help

Both ds and dd2 was/are like it, my dd is almost 4mnths and during the day it's the only way to get her down for naps, but during the evening, when she is happy she can drop off if I'm laying on the bed with her, I lay there talking quietly,keeping eye contact, then she falls asleep happily. I'm hoping that once she starts to know she can settle herself at night, it'll become the norm, but I'm not too worried, my son was the same, he was a bit worse, uber clingy as well, but they do tend to find there own ways eventually, your her world and she just wants you, so she finds being away from you painful in her mind. Persist with the dummy, she should take it eventually, my dd has just started, and it helps. Try when she drops of on the breast, just pop it in when she loses her grip, for want of a better word! But keep her in the same position, so she still thinks she is feeding, then she might get used to the feel of the dummy. Good luck.

Gonna try lying and just talking to her and stroking her face. See if that makes a difference.

Have you tried elevating her crib so her head is slightly raised? Sometimes babies who are used to being slightly inclined on the breast find lying down completely flat uncomfortable.

My 2 dc were like this only got them to stop sleeping on boob when they were over 1 yr old.

Didn't bother me to much.
I used control crying a bit when over 6 months and that helped a bit

of course your baby likes the breast, it gives her food, comfort and the warmth and security of beingh with you

IME they learn to go to sleep without it eventually by themselves, but I can also recommend the no-cry sleep solution by elizabeth pantley if you're very keen to stop her doing it now,
it isn't a quick-fix, but it's a gentle method that works

Hope you've found Something that seems to be working for you, just had a thought re dummy, have you tried boiling in water a few times, to soften it and remove the taste and newness of it? My mum swears by that.

Have you tried a different style of dummy? Some babies don't like the silicone orthodontic ones and will only take the cherry latex kind, or vice versa.

When I stopped feeding to sleep at bedtime DP had to give DS a dummy and rock him to sleep - at first it took a lot longer that way than just feeding him to sleep though!

bin the books, only listen to people who don't criticize your feeding to sleep and you may find that your little one just grows out of it!! 5 months is so tiny.

I was in a hurry to break that habit as I went back to shift work. I never managed to though.
However, DD soon figured out that when i wasn't there she had to take the bottle / daddy alternative but happily continued to fall asleep on the boob till she was about 10 months (when i was home). At 10 MO when in a milky stupor i would detach her and say it was sleepy-time, carry to cot, wrap up and stroke her head. zzzzzzzz zzzzzz

All my DCs have fallen asleep on the boob until at least 12 months old. However, I work shifts and at least half the time, am not there for bedtime and on those occasions they have all managed to fall asleep with my DH or childminder without any fuss.

You are overthinking this. I hate dummies personally and would much rather bf my children to sleep than use a dummy.
