Awkward questions from 3 year old

What do you say to your 3 year old daughter when she keeps asking what sanitary towels are? And what are they for?

I tell my DS who is 3, that they are ladies things, and hes never questioned it further

My four year old asked me what tampons were and I just told her they were cotton wool - thinking that the short simple explanations are the best. She then promptly went in to the bathroom and opened several tampons, came into the kitchen and said " you didn't tell me they had string on them , we could colour them with felt tips and hang them on a tree for christmas..."

Thanks but even in shops she points at them and is quite insistant that she gets a proper answer. Mummys things just wouldnt be enough to satisfy her curiosity. I have said they are what ladies wear to keep panties clean but she asks why would ladies poo or wee in their panties! I am wondering what she might say to others!!!!

My dd1 came in the loo the other day and said 'mummy, your bums bleeding, does it hurt??' I explained that big ladies bleed but it doesn't hurt, my girls think I wear nappies pmsl.

My dd has asked this question and she too is the sort that will persist until she has a satisfying answer - I just told her matter of factly that grown up ladies bleed at certain times in the month, it isn't bad and is not like a cut, and the pads are to stop the blood getting on their knickers. She was totally unphased and just accepted it.

My dd laughed when she first saw me putting a sanitary towel on my knickers and asked why i was wearing a nappy. I just said sometimes i need to (she's only 2). Since then she has said " let me put your nappy on for you mummy" so far i've managed to tell her i'm ok doing it myself and so far i've managed to get the 'used' towel out of sight before she's noticed it and questioned any further.
I do cringe at the thought of her announcing in public that Mummy is wearing a nappy !

Ds is 2 and loves to come in while I'm on the toilet. I was flushing a tampon and when he saw the blood said "mummy was that sore?" I said no, but I imagine more detailed questions are not far off now!

Actually when DS2 asked at 3 ("Why is your wee red Mummy when mine is yellow?") I told him a simplified version of how once a month women bleed if there isn't a baby growing in their uterus, as the lining isn't needed - I explained that it didn't hurt and he shouldn't worry about it. He seemed unphased by this!

I did the same as singersgirl with my ds (4). Again, he just accepted it.
