My 4yo still has a nappy and dummy at night

We swore the dummy would go at 6 months (in fact, we swore we wouldn't use one to start with), then at a year, then 2, then definitely after DD2 was born, then once she was used to nursery, then after we had moved house...

I have just come to the realisation that she looks odd now. Same with the nappy, although as she is not reliably dry in the day yet, I think that will have to wait.

any time I mention it she hoards all her dummies, and I find myself thinking that I should leave it till she is settled at school...

She only has it at night and for naps, she knows she has to leave it in bed.

Sorry, I meant to add, how can I get rid? Or should I just wait for her to decide - it's not doing any harm after all.

DD2 has a blanket instead of a dummy - any time we gave her a dummy, she just looked at us like we were mad.

Don't worry at all about the nappy, being dry at night will happen when it happens (fwiw ds is still in a nppy at night). I suppose the dummy is up to you and whether or not you have concerns about her teeth. If her comfort object was a teddy you wouldn't give it a second thought. If she sucked her thumb you wouldn't be able to take it away. She is only 4 :)

My DD1 is 5 in August and still wears a nappy (pull-up) at night. It is still pretty wet each morning so we won't be ditching it anytime soon.

Don't worry about the night time nappy.

If you feel you want to get rid of the dummy, then hide them all, go cold turkey and blame it all on the Dummy Fairy, who leaves a nice present in return. (My DD still hates the Dummy Fairy 3 years later, lol!) Although this method does result in 3 nights of anguish.

Ds was dry during day just before 3 but only out of night pants (pull ups) just before 5 I think. Just waited til night pants were dry every morning and only 2 wet beds in the year+ since. I was told anytime before 7 is within normal range.

Pie I am not stalking you I promise but every time I read a post by you it could almost have been written by me. Getting a bit freakish

I am in exactly the same boat with DD1 so have no advice. We tried dummy fairy shennanigens last year and it was highly traumatic for 3 nights, I ended up giving in. Doh. Nappy can stay as far as I am concerned. Good luck. And with everything else going on in your life. I have been wondering how you are tbh after your last few threads. I hope you don't mind me saying. I honestly do have very similar issues in my life to you.

This is what my mum did with my brother... he was 4.5 and still had a dummy. She gradually got rid of them til there was only one dummy left. She told him it was the last one. She warned him there would be no more. When he lost it, that was it! One night of crying and he never complained again! And his teeth grew in properly!

Just take the dummy away!! Say tomorrow its going, then do it. Stringing it out is so much worse for your DC. Yes you will have a rough few days, but then its done forever so just do it.

As for nappy, leave it until she is dry every morning.

MrsKaravan - thanks for the concern :) I'm fine, just kind of adjusting my expectations of life a bit atm.

Me and Dh were talking about the nappy last night, and we realised she probably is going to the loo in the night, as the loo is often unflushed in the morning - we had been blaming it on each other, although she is wet every morning still (she leaves her wet nappy outside our bedroom door for us )

It is hard to get any sense outof her at the moment - she is a very dreamy child. Very (scarily) clever, but seems to have no sense of time... Pretty much exactly me at that age, basically, except I wasn't as clever (she gets that from DH) so I can hardly moan!

My DD (1st child was toilet trained just after her 4th birthday. She had the dummy until she was 4 1/2. It wasn't worth the screaming matches of trying to make her give up the dummy. The toilet training just wasn't going to happen until she KNEW that she could do it.
