Cant settle in childcare

My son is 19 months old and first went into any kind of childcare at 12 months - at which point two childminders gave up on him after a couple of weeks, saying they had never had a child simply fail to settle at all like that - he would cry for 6 hours straight. We then found a nanny who could look after him one to one in his own home and it was slow progress but he did fine with her. She recently left us and after week one, the new nanny quit - 6 hours a day crying, never had a child simply fail to settle like this. I dont know how to handle it or what to do! I'm over two thirds of the way through a doctorate I really want to finish having put so much in, else I would be tempted to quit and look after him myself. I am only working three days a week, and he has me the rest of the time. He also had a brother or sister due in November, no idea how he is going to respond the THAT challenge. Any tips? Any experiences? I dont know where to look to next for childcare!

can you take any time out at all?

if so i think i would stick with a nanny, as that's what you've had most success with so far, but have a few weeks where you're all there together so that he has plenty of time to get to know her.
then gradually build up the amount of time you are away

I cant really take time out very easily - its a training doctorate, so I am on work placement at the momment - but the real irritant is that my partner gets university holidays, so he is off in five or six weeks time for the next two months - so we really only need to fill five or six weeks! It might be worth getting a new nanny to work the part of the week I am home for the first week, like you say, so we can all be together, and then pick up from there.
