I have a 4 week old baby (but he was born at 42 weeks so does that make him 6 weeks old indevelopment terms?) he has feeds of 4 oz of number 1 cow and gate formula. I have noticed the past week he spits up and is sick not quite projectile but enough to comcern me. He will also be in his moses basket and I willl wait for him to drift off and he will then his face changes there is no sick or spit up and it sounds like it stuck in his throat and he cries this can happen if he sits up, is lying down or in a seat. I rang the health visitor and she was not much use other than bring him in a day early to get weighed!? I tried the number 2 milk today for hungrier babies it says from birth on the pack but have heard people say dont use it until so many weeks old ? I cant remember when?! I think it has something to do with the kidneys and how they function. Well I tried him with one feed of it today and the milk stayed down so I tried a second feed it seemed to stay down too. I would like to try this for a few feeds a day and use the number 1 milk the rest of the time. Im seeing the health visitor on Wednesday but wondered if anyone else had similar problems? thanks

It does sound like it could be reflux.

Infant Gaviscon is the first thing to try. Add to regular formula milk. Or there is SMA Staydown or one made by the people that make enfamil.too.

Poor you - it is rotten.

Thanks I have done some reading today first time I could! And it says the number 2 milk is heaver as it fills baby for longer. So that would make sense. But I dont want to hram the poor little mite! I also dont want to give more oz of number 1 cow and gate as this will just give more fluid to work its way up. The comfort milk is supposed to be thick and stay down better. I have suffered with acid refulx and its not nice! Had it for 2 to 3 years and expecting it again in a few months I have medication for it although have not had it for 10 months Smile! Its horrible and makes me sad he could be getting it too!! Deffo HV on Wednesday! Thanks

forgot to say, there is a support thread in the breast and bottle feeding section for all parents of reflux babies. Very good source of info and help.

My DD did a similar thing and they called in possiting. I moved her to hungry baby milk but it gave her terrible constipation and she was in so much pain. If it is possiting it does not hurt them, its just a pain with all the extra washing up u have to do. and all the spare bibs u need.

Posseting is perfectly normal - don't be too quick to assume all vomiting is reflux and needs medical help! Babies have very sensible stomachs that reject any excess when they've had enough to eat. In fact a bit of spit-up is how you know they're full. Most babies are 'happy sickers' - you get no warning, their facial expression doesn't even change - suddenly you've just got a tablespoon of sick on your leg! I wouldn't change the formula - really, sicking is normal! Try a bandana-style bib if the washing is too much.

I have seen the Dr yesterday he was useless! So spoke to the health visitor. I have the problem of he wants more oz he seems to want 5oz for some feeds. This is fine but with him bringing up quite a bit of spit up or sick I did not want to push more liquid. I was advised by the HV to add a scoop of number 2 and 3 scoops of number 1. I did not know you could do this! I have a 5 yr old I never had these issuses with him he used to spit up a bit so I know what it should be like. My baby is bringing up 1/2 to 1 oz sometimes and he is upset before he does it. Sometimes a little bit comes out from the force of the burp which is also fine. I will try this mix for a bit and give some cooled boiled water too in the morings to help prevent constipation. Thanks for your help guys! I dont mind washing the machine is on every day anyways! Smile Going to get him weighed today.
