Constipation 12-week-old

My DS has just gone nearly a week before having a poo. Having saved it all up for today for so long, we had 2 major explosions, neither of which any nappy could have contained. Is this something to worry about? I'm concerned that it might have exacerbated his "colic" (strictly not colic, as it hits at various times in the day or night, but always after or during feeds, and used to last for 3 hours). He's had the digestive pains since he was 3 weeks old, but the constipation has really only happened from about 7 weeks.

Your first poo explosion at 12 weeks. My you've been lucky Grin

He sounds fine. The digestive issues often go away in time (DS had the same).

If he gets really constipated give him a few spoonfuls of cooled boiled water.

Dd2 used to go for days without pooing and then have a massive explosion!

We used to dilute prune juice and it helped! Just put a tiny amount in a bottle with cooled boiled water.

If you are breastfeeding try eating loads of raisins! That may help.

If he's breast fed, once a week can be pretty normal. Sounds like you've just experienced your first double bagger!!

I asked the HV about this she advised cooled boiled water about 1 to 2 oz in the morning so not to confuse his feeds. Its works. I think she said something about apple juice if it was really bad with boiled water? Check with a HV see what they say? Good Luck...

If he's BF then it's totaly normal and nothing to worry about BF babies can go several week's (longest I've hurd of being 21days) without pooing. Don't add anything else no water of other juice it just interfears with BF.

If formula then you may need to speck with your HV as I think they should go a lot more offten.

If breastfed it's normal - it's not constipation, sometimes they're just using everything you give them!

If BF then I've heard its normal,

If bottle.... an oz or so of cooled boiled water helps. My DD is almost 12weeks and I've been lucky not to have any explosions...she goes once a day pretty much like clockwork Lol!! xxxx
