Skinny DS suddenly eating tons

DS2 has always been incredibly skinny, it was picked up by the school nurse too who said he was actually underweight. He's 10 now and weighs just under 4 stone. He can still fit into age 5-6 boxer shorts. He doesn't eat much, leaves most of his dinner most nights and generally has a poor diet (although I do try!).

Anyway recently he's started eating A LOT. For instance, this morning he ate two bowls of cereal PLUS peanut butter on toast and then he was asking for other stuff. He very rarely brings any pack-up home now and he's even started eating his dinners properly. Another change in him however is a very odd sleep pattern where he wakes up at 3-4am, wonders around the house, watches TV (without me knowing as I'm in bed obviously) and eventually drops off back to sleep around 6am - and then struggles to get up at 7am and is AWFUL all day (behaviour and attitude). Could the eating and change in sleep be connected??

I expect you're glad that he's eating loads now, providing he is putting on weight. My ds 11 has phases of eating loads for a couple of weeks but his sleep pattern doesn't change.

What time is your ds' bedtime?

He goes to bed at 9.30pm and reads until 10pm

That isn't too early is it? I'm thinking that he's probably waking to go to the toilet and then he isn't able to fall asleep straight away because he's had a good chunk of sleep already. I don't know what you can do! My ds tends to go to sleep later but that's not good for dp and me!
As it's the weekend, could you let him stay up until 11 tonight and see what happens tomorrow morning?

My 9 year old can out eat his dad who is 15 stone!! He is the size of a 6 year old and has always been tiny but eats large amounts, yet my 7 year old eats hardly anything and is bigger and heavier then him. He was tested for an overactive thyroid as this is a classic sign for it and I suffer with the disease as well. This came back as normal and after a discussion with my mum aparently my two brothers were exactly the same, small build but large appetites and they are still like it now even though there 30 & 25 but they are both 6ft plus!! My concern went after discovering this, he loves his food and has a high motabalism and i think he's going to be the tallest of all three of my kids :)
