hi all, I'm looking for some help and advice please :)

My 9 day old was sleeping and feeding brilliantly and has just started to change and not settle in his Moses basket at night. He's feeding fine (breast) and falls asleep on me but as soon as I put him down in his Moses basket he crys. He does make a lot of snuffly sounds too, I mean loads!! Is this normal? He sometimes jolts of seems to gasp. He just won't sleep in his Moses basket, he'll sleep on dh's chest though. Can anyone help? Maybe it's reflux - I'm not even sure what this is???! Help?? Or maybe he wants to sleep on his front?

Thanks!!! X

at only 9 days its pretty strange to suddenly find yourself on your own in a moses basket. just lots of feeding and cuddling is good. If the snuffles worry you then talk to your health visitor when she calls. If you are concerned more see your GP, enjoy your baby takes a lot of time to get to know them and cuddling is good.

My DS was the same and is now 8 weeks. Although he still has not slept a whole night in his crib, it is getting better. If you haven't done so already, try putting a folded towel under the mattress to raise the head slightly. DS still makes some gagging noises and also strains as if trying to fart ALL night. It's very difficult to try and sleep through that!

Thank you I'm going to try raising his basket at the head end and give him lots of cuddles. I guess when they wake up all night it's just tiring!! Just takes a lot of getting used to, I'm going to try and not worry about lack of sleep!!

My baby had reflux, some of the best advice I got from the doctor who also had a baby with reflux was to Keep him upright for at least 20 mins after a feed, this gives time for the milk to settle and so it is less likely to bother him when liying down after 20 mins, if indeed he has reflux. Also tipping the matress up a little with a folded towel will help. i know you just want to put them straight down and go back to sleep but it really does help!

Good luck, I ended up getting baby gaviscon but it was a right faff to deal with.
