Naps at 5 months - when will this change?

DD is 5 months next week. Currently she naps roughly every 1.5-2 hours for 40 minutes each time, either in her cot or in the sling if we're out and about. When will her nap routine change? Older babies just have a couple of naps a day, don't they? And will she change the routine herself or is there something I should do?

My DS (now 7.5mo) was exactly the same at that age. He was having five 40-minute naps a day at one point! I did start trying to resettle him when he woke up as he would usually still be tired, but not sure that made any difference as it didn't work very often. At about 5.5 months he started throwing the odd longer nap into the mix and by 6.5mo he would usually be having three naps a day, two of 1.5 hours in the morning and over lunch and a shorter nap later on. He has started at nursery this week and has now cut down to two naps - one really long one later in the morning and another mid-afternoon. I think as they get older they naturally go longer between naps and sleep for longer when they do sleep so I wouldn't worry - I'm sure it will take care of itself.
