2yr old on formula still?

Is this ok? My ds has just turned 2 and he still has two bottles of sma follow on a day. One when he wakes up and one before he goes to bed. It says on the tin up until they are 3.

I have been very keen on keeping him on it as he was 6 weeks prem and have been quite vigilant with the iron and vitimins etc, hence my decision to keep him on it but I was just wondering whether other people decide this as well or am I being OTT.

If he has a good diet then ordinary milk would be ok I should think. Isn't SMA follow on expensive ?
If you are happy with it though and it says it is recommended up to age 3 - then you should follow your own instincts !

I think dieticians would say that unless he has any allergies, whole cows' milk should be fine as part of a balanced diet.

The formula companies are really out there to get as much money from you as they can!

DD is 2.5 and she drinks about a pint of cows' milk over 24 hours!

It's probably not necessary but won't do any harm so long as you are careful about his teeth. I'd switch to cups and make sure teeth are brushed before bed.

DS 2yo drinks cow's milk and has done since he turned 1. Also now drinking out of a sippy cup instead of a bottle, but has it twice a day.

It won't do him any harm, but there's no reason for him to still be on it if he's getting a balanced diet. In the nicest (but understanding your reasons) way, it's a little OTT :)

my dd was on follow on milk (after being breastfedfor 1st year) until she was 3 !!

DD was 13 weeks prem, and we had to stop her iron and vitamin supplements after 6 months because they made her sick. However, as she eats a varied diet, we decided to put her onto full fat cow's milk at the age of 12 months (actual age). She never had much formula though as she was breastfed for 8 months and then breast and formula mix-fed until she was a year.

I think you are being a little OTT. (8 week prem twins here). But doing no harm. Should be using a sippy cup or an open cup rather than a bottle and thinking about how he's going to feel about being offered cows milk at nursery if that is something he'll be heading to next year.

If he's still getting all the iron/vits as a supplement too, probably not necessary, but fine if it suits you.

How is he doing? - my boys are just 2 as well, so I'm just being nosy. They are a bit scrawny, never did the chunky baby thing, but otherwise have given us no problems. (or at least none that seem prem related) .
