Is it normal?

Is it normal for a 5.10 year old to still mess his pants?

This isn't a constant problem but we've had a few incidences where he's messed himself and goes around completely unaware of what has happened. Meanwhile, I'm hounding my 3 year old because I'm sure I can smell something and even this doesn't trigger a response with him.

Is it just that he's too engrossed in what he's doing or is it a psychological reaction to something? What I don't know.

no, it isn't normal IMO

is he completely soiling himself or is it just a small amount? how often is it happening?

No not normal. Is it a lot or just a small amount. Does he go for a poo frequently? If he's constipated a bit might just come out without him realising.

Look into the possiblilty of overflow diarrhoea related to constipation?

Pleiades45 · 17/05/2011 20:28

thanks for the replies. He's completely soiling himself. It's not happening often but it has happened twice now in the last 2 weeks. I can appreciate if he doesn't get to the toilet in time but to sit there and not realise?

With him being at school all day, I'm really not sure how often he goes to the toilet. I've googled the overflow diarrhoea and it's a possibility. I'll try and ask some questions over the next few days to understand the situation better.

Some children hate using the toilet at school so wait until they get home, then get busy/forget and it sort of backs up!
Sorry if TMI but it happens.
