Baby crying when nappy is wet but not dirty - anyone heard of this?

This is a new one on me but could do with helping a friend with a new-born.

She thinks the baby cries when he's got a fresh nappy on and just does a wee in it?

I said nowt but wondered if there might be summat like a urine infection causing the crying rather than the 'wet nappy' feeling unpleasant. I understood it that nappies wicked moisture away pretty damn quick but hey, I could be wrong!

My DS doesn't like a wet nappy and grizzles before a wee and often cries once he has done one, unless he is very, very distracted (5m)

DD (now 5) used to cry if she needed a wee but already had a wet nappy, as evidenced by her crying, us running around trying to figure out what was wrong, eventually changing her nappy and her immediately doing a wee.

Your friend might want to google elimination communication. It's basicaly communicating with the baby by making a cue noise so they know to empty their bladder. You can then "catch" the wee (or poo) and so save a nappy/ensure a new nappy will be dry for as long as possible.

It sounds mad but does work (it's what people all over the world with out nappies do...as well as some of us here) and a lot of people that do it here came to it because their lo made it clear they hated being wet or wanted to wee (it's belived to be an instinct to keep the "nest" clean like other animals have.)

my little one wears his nappy for quite a while (lots of wees) and is very happy but then early evening will want some nappy free time. he will cry untill i take wet nappy off him and will let him kick around naked for half hour of so.
