He's 3 and has one of those micro-mini scooters which he absolutely loves. It has allowed us to get rid of his buggy which he has not been in for months now (since we got scooter basically!) but now he will struggle to walk even the smallest distance without demanding his scooter. Means we can't really go for a walk without taking into account that pathways have to be scooterable (is that a word!?!). Should I try and wean him off his scooter addiction?!

No just let him have his fun! It is probably only a phase! If you make a fuss then he may refuse to go out!! DS has one of these and it is great when out and about as when he is fed up of walking we just pull him along on the scooter!

They are great aren't they. He's like Evel Knieval on the ruddy thing. Just have visions of him scootering off to work on it when he's 32 because his 'walking' muscles have wasted away ..... Grin

I bought DS a scooter at the same age for the same reason as you. He didn't like his buggy and I couldn't be arsed spend 30 minutes walking a 10 minute trip to the local shops.

He is 6 now and still likes to use his scooter but he can walk. So I would say let him use it and begin to take routes where he has to walk for a part of it as its too dangerous/ impossible to scooter and he'll get use to it. Mindyou DS still doesn't walk anywhere he runs or is a train. Hmm

I agree with helium!

DS1 is the other way round, has a micro scooter but won't use it and insists on walking everywhere, which takes much longer! So I would be thankful he'll use a scooter, and let him use it :)
