6 month old not rolling: worried!

Hello
My DD is 6 months old and can roll only from side to side, she can't go all the way over from tummy to back or vice versa. She moves herself around somehow, but I am a bit worried. Have a GP appointment on Tuesday, but has anyone else waited longer than 6 months for their babies to roll? She's continuing to develop in other ways - can work to get a toy, makes lots of different sounds, very smiley and responsive etc. Thanks in advance.

She's fine! Babies do things at their own speed, try not to worry too much and enjoy all the other fab things she's doing. It won't be long before you're wishing she would stay still for a while!

I don't remember now when DD rolled, but it was much much later than the suggested norm so I would guess it was six months or so. I remember being stressed about it - and I was seriously concerned about crawling!

I had no stress with DD2 because I was too busy to look at charts etc.

Your DD sounds really fine and happy to me.

my DS never really learnt to roll. He rolls around on the floor now though (when he is having a tantrum)
But seriously, he never rolled, he just went straight to crawling from the sitting position.
as long as he is developing normally in other areas and starting to sit etc.. i woulddnt be worried.

My DS rolled from front to back at 6.5mo the other day. His twin sister hasn't managed it yet, and neither have done back to front (which I think is harder because of a placement).

I'm not worried - they're happy, healthy and learning new stuff every day. It just happens that rolling isn't one of those things :-)

Seriously, my dd didn't roll until after she could crawl, Which was quite late at 11 months. She's fine, it'll be fine, it all happens at their own pace

therealmrsbeckham · 12/05/2011 21:30

Neither DD and DS1 rolled until about 10 months. DD didn't crawl until she was 11 months either and when she did she only went in reverse Grin

DS2 is 6 months and is showing no interest in rolling. Try not to get too hung up on milestones. Just relax and enjoy your LO and remember that all babies develop at their own pace Smile

DS was 11 months.

Graciescotland · 12/05/2011 21:48

DS was 8 months and now that he's nearly 9 months he's started to crawl :)

Chundle · 13/05/2011 07:54

My dd wasn't rolling at 9 months an was referred to physio they found out she didn't like the sensation of rolling and now at 21 months she still gets 'stuck' on her back!

DeWe · 13/05/2011 09:16

Dd1 rolled at 10 months, after she'd started crawling when she saw the use of being able to get from her back to her front. But she sat beautifully at 6 months, hardly falling at all.
Dd2 rolled at about 3 months (it was easier for her as she's missing half her left arm, so she always rolled that way, crawled at 6 months, but didn't sit at all until about 9 months, and even then she fell a lot until she was close on a year.
Dd1 was much easier to deal with though Grin
Don't worry.

DD is nearly 11 months and still only ever rolls in her cot, if we put her on the floor on her back she is baffled! She sat unaided at 6 months, but has never crawled, she's a bum shuffler now. She always hated tummy time so there was never any incentive to learn to roll. Hopefully the GP will reassure you. Smile

Thanks so much everyone. I'll let you know what she says. I feel loads better now.

M dd can't roll either - she is 9 months.. She crawls and cruises but on her back she is stuck like a beetle

mimou · 13/05/2011 11:43

DS1 didn't really roll or crawl, he just got up and started walking at 10.5 months. I wouldn't worry.

Woodlands · 13/05/2011 13:33

my ds has literally this week started rolling at just under 10 months.

pukkaplant · 13/05/2011 22:15

At about 4 months my DS worked out how to roll over from stomach to back, did it a dozen or so times over 2 weeks and hasn't done it since. Go figure. He's now able to roll onto his side when on his back, but hasn't quite worked out how to go the whole hog.

He is my PFB and until about 2 weeks ago I was neurotic about the rolling and everything else I could be neurotic about. I exhausted myself. I know there's nothing wrong and he'll just do it when he's ready, not when I'm ready.

Hi my daughter is eleven months old and I've only seen her roll about twice, she doesn't crawl and isn't walking yet but she's perfect, she's just content sitting playing with her toys!! I stressed about the rolling, and now the crawling but Hv assured me she's fine and all babies are different!!
