5 year old with perspiration issue!

My 5 year old dd2 has really smelly armpits. She has a bath every night and comes out smelling all fresh and lovely. But, by the time she comes home from school the next day she is a triffle whiffy. I think she is too young to start using deodorant. Does anybody else have a little one with this problem? And, if so, any ideas on how to keep the smell away?

Hi Belo,

My DD1 is now 7 but had underarm BO from the age of 5. She has been using deodorant quite happily and feels grown up about doing it. It is now just part of her daily routine. We use Dove which is gentle and does not smell. She has now started to grow underarm hair and pubic hair and we have been to see the consultant to discuss premature puberty.

We have been told that the hormones which control sweat and pubic hair are not the same as those which make breasts grow and start periods so I am hoping she will not develop any more in that area for a few years.

I wouldn't worry too much about it but deodorant is definitely a good idea.

Thanks Alison. It's good to know that my DD2 is not the only one with this issue. As we never had this issue with DD1 it has come as quite a surprise. I will her a bottle of deodorant of her own. She will love that and I can imagine feel very grown up!
