9 week old sleeping

Hi

We have a baby boy that is 9 weeks old and has not got into a proper sleeping pattern. He feeds between 8 and 10 and then goes to sleep. But when he wakes at 1 am he wont go back to sleep after his feed. He seems to get really agitated but doesn't actually cry. He will doze for a half hour or so but not go fully to sleep and we continue like this until 7am when we get up. He will fall asleep in your arms but will wake up as soon as he is put in his crib. He doesn't appear to bring much wind up in general. Has anyone any ideas on how we can get him to sleep at night?

Thanks

Polly

Maybe try sleeping with him in bed with you?

Does he get enough sleep during the day?

How long after he's fallen asleep do you try and put him down? You need to give it at least 20 mins to make sure he's in a deep sleep first.

He also needs lots of naps in the day too otherwise he'll get hugely overtired and wont sleep at night. Watch out for tired signs - glazed eyes, not maintaining eye contact followed by hyperactive behaviour then crying. Try and catch him at the earlier glazed eye stage and rock him to sleep or pop in a pram/sling for a walk then nap.

My DH made a little bolt on cot on the side of our bed so DS1 (and later DS2) could sleep right next to us, which helped his sleep. Sometimes he slept in our bed with us. (To be on the safe side, we replaced our duvets with sheet and cellular blankets for the first year). DS1 had silent reflux as well but once he was on gavascon he slept much better still.
