My ds who is nearly 6 can't pronounce his r's(think wabbit rather than rabbit)and his s's(sop rather than shop)
Its very cute now but can't imagine he'll like it when he's older.should I see a speech therapist or will it be something he outgrows?any advice greatly received.

My DS1 (13.7yrs) when he was the same age couldn't say his r's either and we thought it very cute, he grew out of it at around 7/8..... kinda missed it when it went lol

Really wouldn't worry just yet x

I believe "r" is one of the last sounds to master.

Ds2 is just 5 and he has been having speech therapy through school since he started there. Originally he went as he had a number of problems, couldn't say "before" would say "bedore". It was mainly habit as he had always said the words this way. He could make the "f" sound, learnt "office" as a new word and had no problems with that Grin but would count won too, free door, dive.

He can now do all that, learnt to pronounce letters properly but we are now stuck with his little lisp. He makes a "ssss" sound the same as a "th" so puts his tongue between his teeth.

As you say cute at this age but .....

I would have a chat to his teacher, the school should be able to either tell you it's fine or point you in the right direction of where you can get help.

DD is 5.7 and can't say her rs properly. She does now know that she can't do it properly and when she is writing words she will usually use r correctly (if that makes sense).

I'm not worried about it at the moment tbh. But not sure when (and if) I should.
