Hi everyone,

My 2 ( almost 3) yr old daughter likes to play outside the front with the other children. She mostly plays with her neighbour, a little boy the same age as her. They play well together although he can be a bit boistrous at times. Well, yesterday his older brother, who is 6, came out to play. While my daughter and her little friend were playing, they got into a little shoving match over a football, ( thanks to the little boy snatching it off my daughter and she was just defending herself). The older brother came over and pushed my daughter really hard on the ground and she began to cry! Her little friend she plays with then ran over to her and started kicking her in the face! Thats when my husband ran over to stop it. The parents asked what had happened and my huband told them and that was about all they did. My daughter was very upset about it and now doesn't want to go outside to play anymore. She says the meany boys are out there! I feel sad for her as I know she enjoyed playing with her little friend. I am also a bit upset with the fact the parents didn't reprimand the 6yr old!! And now my daughter feels intimidated by the boys outside. She deserves to be out there just as much as they do. Any suggestions on her to overcome this fear?

Hmm difficult one really I would tend not to let a toddler play out the front as things like this do tend to happen. Just my thoughts and no offence intended whatsoever. Could you perhaps sit outside with her next time she plays out to reassure her?

maybe the other child was reprimanded at home rather than publicly?

in any case, i think if you're not immediately to hand it's not a great idea to let such a young child out to play tbh... (not saying that makes it ok that she got hurt, but y'know)
