DS pulling his hair out

DS is 16 months and has always sucked his thumb and played with his hair (or anyone elses who he is cuddling up to). I've noticed for the past few days he has been pulling it out, strand by strand and now has a few bald patches, showing through his lovely dark hair. Am getting it cut shorter next week to help it be less noticeable and also to try and deter him from doing it.

His dad and I have seperated and I'm wondering whether he could be affected by this. Is he too young to understand or know whats happened? He must know that something is different with us not living together. But then would a 16 month old suffer stress type symptoms?

Also could it be just a phase he will grow out of soon?

Hi, didn't want to read and run, my son was the same regarding the thumb sucking and playing with (anyones) hair at that age. They do pick up on stress at a very early age which I think you've realised.

It is a hard time for the both of you. It will get better.
