My DS is 5 and seems to get very frustrated at most things, usually if he is told he can't do something like play on the Nintendo DS or watch TV which we limit to one hour a day as a reward. He doesn't like playing with any toys as seems to find them boring and is happy to play with his younger brother for a while but they just end up fighting and my youngest will always get hurt! His constand answering back and being rude and lashing out is driving us to madness! Is this normal? Any ideas to calm him down?

My dd is EXACTLY like this. I'm ready to scream and I have no answers. She's 5 this week. She's very tired from the last term but her attitude and behaviour stinks.

Could you explain why you limit TV to only an hour, and then only as a reward?

Thats not a Judgey question btw, just wanted to know.... Sometimes my kids, (who are hateful at times as well) are just seriously bored or tired and TV actually HELPS their behaviour a lot of the time as it makes them sit down and relax.

Has he always been like this, or is it more recently? I think they get like this when they are tired and don't have the concentration for the play that normally interests them. I would

I would get outside a lot more- do you do this already? Go to the woods/playground. Also as others say, T.V. normally an hour or two a day is a good idea, but just sometimes if you are not going out anywhere and they are knackered a bit more is quite good for chilling out to.
