Can you teach modesty?

After spending the day with my DN (12) who is inclined to show off and brag frequently, I was slightly proud of my DD1 (same age) who kept very quiet about her own achievements/belongings rather than rising to the bait dangled in front of her.

I have 3 younger DCs who haven't quite got to this level of modesty yet, and it made me wonder if modesty is learned or is inherent within?

I have always praised effort as well as achievement, and try to discourage bragging about possessions and experiences, but I am worried that as I am a mom who praises frequently, ny younger DC may not have the natural humble side to them and will turn out to be immodest.

So, how can I teach them appropriate levels, or is it just down to their personality?
