Can anyone suggest anything that will help me keep a hat on a 9 month old? She's too young to reason with/bribe, has virtually no hair and a real problem with hats. I have sewn elastic onto her hats, but that just leads to her virtually strangling herself in an attempt to get it off. In this sunny weather its a real issue as it means we can't go out with her at all. Soon she'll be missing out on everything if we can't get her to keep a hat on.

Help!!!!!

just keep putting it back on, and trying to distract her with something.
it works eventually.

Superglue?

(I share your pain)

My DD was exactly the same, I can't count how many hats she went through. We were living in the hottest country in the world where it rained twice in three years.
As others have said, all you can do is keep replacing it.

I used to put sun cream in my DS's hair when he was this age as he wouldn't keep it on. Is this a possibility for you combined with keeping the hood down on the pushchair?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your replies! The main problem is she is now in a back carrier a lot of the time and we're going to be putting her in her kid seat on my bicycle soon so the hat, and also the helmet! has to go on and stay on. She's just too heavy for the front carrier now. We actually do have a pushchair which we got when she was born but barely use it as its more of a faff than it's worth over rough ground.

Today I tried tying it on with a nylon scarf, Edwardian lady motorist style, but I'm terrified she'll get it tangled. Also she looks like a furious ET with it on :(

Oh crumbs. Why don't they make a "Hat on" as well as "Sock ons"?
:)

Maybe you've just hit on a brand new business idea there lions

See you on Dragon's Den

You can get sunshades/canopies for back carriers.

A good long-term strategy is to make sure you're ALWAYS wearing a hat yourself and do lots of 'look, Mummy's hat! DD's hat!' comparisons.
