10 week old - his sleep is getting worse!

Our 10 week old used to sleep 5 or 6 hours from his last feed before bed (around 9.30pm) but is now only managing a maximum of 4 hours - I thought they were supposed to get better at sleeping as they got older, not worse! I don't think its a growth spurt as he's not feeding noticeably more during the day. Has anyone got any tips that might help him go longer?

Hi, what time does he have feed before 9.30pm one? Sometimes cluster feeding from teatime to bedtime (giving a bottle every 2 hours) can work as it 'tops them up' to help them go a little longer through night. Also after he's gone to bed giving a dream feed can help where you don't wake them up but feed them asleep then put them back down again but thats usually done around 10pm so may not work until your son is going to bed a bit earlier. They do have blips in their sleeping patterns though and just when you think its sorted it changes again :-))

Hello buffy13, he's breast fed so will tend to go three hours between feeds in the morning, but only two in the afternoon/evening. Maybe its just a blip - I really hope so! :-)

hi mob, ime their pattern is def up and down but generally getting better over all iyswim. Smile

Ds is bf and despite him choosing to cluster feed in the evenings woke in the night for ages, indefed sometimes still does at 14m.

From early on he would occasionaly sleep through (bliss if it weren't for the fact that i woke anyway) but mostly woke to varying degrees.

There are well know sleep regressions at 4 and 9m. I found wierd developmental links, eg his sleep had a long rough patch between 8m when he started standing, till he cracked walking at 12m. Then there was a dramatic improvement.

I think you just need to bide your time. Co sleeping saved my sanity. And some days you just have to sack off chores and nap when they do.

It does get better...just not in a straight line iykwim. Smile
