Newborn haïr - does it always fall out?

DD2 is nearly ten weeks old and has a fine head of hair. She was born with lots and it hasn't fallen out (yet).

DD1 was born with lots of hair too but it had all fallen out after about a month and then grew back in again.

Just wondering if the hair they are born with always falls out, or if some babies just keep their hair. Does anybody know?

DS2 was born with a fine head of hair and he didn't lose it (apart from the bit that rubbed off at the back where he lay on it!) I had to do his first hair cut at 3 months!

DS' didn't fall out either. Or rather, the wispy newborn hair must have fallen out at the same rate as the slightly coarser normal hair grew.

DD1 didn't lose any, and also needed a haircut within the first few months.

Was quite a surprise to me when DD2s thick black hair fell out (and grew back blonde!).

DD didn't lose any apart from the bit at the back but she was born with very little hair in the first place. She's 26 months now and hasn't had a hair cut yet!

ds kept his, and there was LOTS. We haven't cut it though Grin

ds1 lost the bright red hair he was born with over the course of a few weeks, took a year for it to grow back at all (white blond, but he's now got lovely thick dark hair)

ds2 born with very little blond hair and lost a bit where it rubbed off at the back, again took about a year to grow in, and is now very thick at age 3.

dd born with tons of beautiful fluffy dark hair which mostly fell out by about 6 weeks, leaving a strange combover effect with a few strands on top. she's now 15 months and it's grown back in but fine mousey hair Sad

all three of mine were born with thick heads of balck hair

dd never lost any of hers... I was tying it up at 6 months! It's still jet black too.

ds1 lost most of his apart from a few tufts at the top and it turned brown

ds2 didn't lose any of his but it went much fairer, it's brown now as well, even lighter than ds1's

DS was born with reddish hair which rubbed off before I came out of hospital and he was bald for months. When it eventually grew back it was blond and he had lovely long blond curls!

DD was born with a shock of dark brown hair and although some of it has rubbed off around the sides where she sleeps the majority is still long.

Neither of my babies ahd bald patches at the back because they both like to sleep on their sides. They have avoided getting flat heads because of this too.

DS's baby hair didn't fall out. Just got superceeded with more of the same, sort of strawberry blond and poker straight.
