DD age 2.10 has started with a dummy

DD saw her 3m cousin over the weekend, who uses a dummy. DD got an old one of cousin's dummies, initially to use with her doll, but went to bed with it in her mouth last night & had it in when she was watching TV this morning.

Surely a nearly 3 year old isn't going to start using a dummy? She never had one as a baby (rejected it when I tried) but breastfed until 2.7 so I suppose might well have a sucking need??

DP really hostile to her starting with a dummy & I'm not keen on the idea, but don't mind her playing with it if that's all she's doing. Don't know what's normal at this age with dummies?!

If she's gone this far without it, age certainly doesn't need it. I'd 'lose' it quickly.

That's supposed to say 'she certainly doesn't need it'

so you think she isn't too old to start relying on it if she gets into the habit? I suppose not. I just have dummies associated as such a baby thing I find it really surprising that she's showing interest now (although I apparently had a dummy until 5)

I think she'll most likely get bored of it quite quickly but who knows, not worth the risk IMO

Okay thanks PrivetDancer, think I will hide them asap!

Not a good idea at her age, I would tell her the fairies needed it for a new baby that had just been born and not encourage it.
There are many reasons to not start now with a dummy, speech being the most important as you don't want her speech being hindered.
Good luck

Hid it & she asked for it on Wednesday but hasn't mentioned it today!
