DD doesn't talk at nursery

She's 2.2 and actually very verbal at home and with people she knows well, as long as there aren't too many of them. She loves her key worker and really seems to enjoy going (claps and says 'yay' when it's a nursery morning), but another girl who works there said that today (when I collected her and she walked out with me, and dd said 'oh look, there's a helicopter') was the first time she'd heard her talk (the nursery worker has been there about 3 months, and DD knows her name). I was a bit Confused and am not sure whether to be concerned - she's totally fine, but a bit shy...is there anything I can do to encourage her to interact a bit more?

I'm surprised the nursery haven't picked up on a bit more, I would just chat to the key worker about it and see what she thinks. I would be a bit concerned to be honest as I'd worry about making friends if she isn't interacting that much.

I think she plays with the other children, sings songs and the like, just doesn't talk much. She is quite quiet - I should probably say that we are not in the UK and I don't think childcare is quite so development orientated as it might be. She also only goes 3 mornings a week and most of the children are there full-time. She was playing happily with her cousin at the weekend.

My daughter didn't speak at nursery until she was about 3, I think. Despite the fact she had been going for about 18 months. It isn't necessarily anything to worry about - she is 7 now, and considered to be the "leader" in her class at school, and very bright.

I think some children are just slower to build up their confidence it nursery care situations.
