4 year old has just started to throw tantrums, how do I handle it?

My 4 year old has never been a tantrum thrower....until now! He doesn't have complete melt downs, but when he doesn't get his own way he starts to cry. It's driving me nuts, and I have tried ignoring it, and telling him off for it. I have tried taking away a toy, but he isn't really attached to anything enough for it to bother him.
I am at a loss of how else to deal with it. He did it outside his nursery today when I told him he couldn't rider his scooter as punishment for pushing a class buddy and then refusing to say sorry properly. I thought we had got away with him not throwing wobblies, but I hope this isn't the start!!!!
Any advice would be greatly received!
Many thanks,
Lx

No advice really, just wanted to say that my DD (4.9) has had the most monumental tantrums over the past week. Also over nothing. The only thing that she engages with is a chat afterwards, but she's mostly unrepentant. Possibly a school thing-is your DS at school yet? Anyway, my sympathies, thought we were over all of this!!

Hi,
No DS not at school yet, he starts in September and will be one of the oldest! It's just nice to know I am not the only one in this situation!!!!
