Hi my baby boy is 12 weeks old, from early days he's always liked enjoying staring at shiny light fittings on the ceiling of the various rooms in the house, you can put him on his gym mat but rather than be occupied with the various colourful objects he prefers to stare at the light fittings and laugh to himself....is this normal?

Oh yes! My DS was entertained by them for hours. Especially hideous brass ones Grin

Enjoy this time where a light fitting can do the entertainment for you!

Yes, have seen this in various babies.

They like looking at contrasts at this age so black and white patterns are also good.

We left our Christmas decortations up an extra month to entertain our dd1 at that age. Grin

Oh yes, ds (14 months) was always fascinated by lights. When he started pointing he was pointing at lights, and now one of his greatest pleasures in lights is turning lights on and off - electrician in the making?!!!

Yes. normal. I find it very handy if DD won't settle at night to bring her out of her room and show her the hall lights to calm her down :)

When ds was little we used to call him the "ceiling expert" - light fittings weren´t his thing but a well-painted white ceiling was a different matter entirely...
