How do I get DD to LISTEN to what I'm saying?

What techniques do you use to get your lo to listen to you when you are disciplining them? She's generally a good kid but in those instances of 'don't run off too far, don't touch that sharp knife, don't annoy your brother, time to go to bed' she just doesn't listen? So frustrating.

Any suggestions please for my sanity? Thanks

How old is your DD?

Have you read Happiest Toddler on the Block? Full of useful communications tips IMO.

The other principal I've tried to use is to always say the positive. So instead of 'don't go in the road' I say 'stay on the pavement'... Seems to work for us...
