My 3.4 year old ds has devoloped a stammer

My 3 year old ds has always been a very good talker. However lately he has developed quite a pronounced stammer and takes quite some time to finish even the simplest sentances. Is this anything to be worried about and what if anything should we do?

My DS1 does the same, he's 3.1. It's a recent thing too and he's a good talker too. I think at this stage, they are learning so much (I can definitely see him picking up stuff that would have gone over his head normally!) and they just struggle to put into words what their brain is thinking. I wouldn't worry too much, just don't make a big deal out of it. Just remind them to think about what they want to say before saying it. My friend's DD1 went through the same thing at the same age and just outgrew it.

ds1 did this and apparently it's quite common!
it happens when they're thinking faster than they can talk and get a bit stuck

My ds went through this at around that age. It was as if his brain and his mouth weren't quite working together for a while!

He grew out of it, but if you're concerned you should of course talk to your GP or hv. Or maybe decide that if there's no improvement in x months then you'll speak to someone.

I can't remember when ds stopped stammering - it just seemed to gradually disappear. He's 4.4 now and hasn't done it for quite a while anyway.
