12 mo biting - how do I stop this?

DS has just turned one and bites everything, particularly feet, he's like a little snappy dog trying to bite my ankles!

Today at playgroup he was playing with one of his friends and as she put her hand to his face, DS tried to bite her!

How do I deal with this? I thought this happens a bit later!

Thanks for your help, embarrassed mum x

At this age I always say something like 'we don't bite' in a firm and cross voice then move the LO away from that activity. I have found with mine that if you react too much then they think it is a game. As they get older and bite with more intensity I move them away then actively ignore them for a short time after telling them 'we don't bite'. Children generally love attention so to be ignored can be quite a punishment.

Not saying that this is the only way or the best way but I find that it is usually just a phase and often linked to teething.
