Holding poo in

DD is holding poo in after a painfully constipated poo. It's been about 3 weeks. She will stand so stiff until the feeling has past. we tried getting her into a squot position while she was in this stiff state and it worked for a while but now she won't bend her legs which means she is managing to hold it. She didn't poo yesterday at all. We have been to the doctor who has given us powder to loosen her. We haven't used it as prune juice works just as well. How do you break the mental connection. She is 16 months.

I think you'd just have to keep going with making sure her stools are soft/loose, making sure she drinks plenty of water and eats things that will ease their passing (eg apricots, or prune juice etc). So long as her stools remain soft, she'll have to pass them, and after a while hopefully she'll forget the constipation. That's all I can suggest...
