Just curious really as DD was 7lb at birth and now at 22 weeks is 13 1 so not quite doubled yet!

Mine is a bit of a monster!! He was 7lb 8 oz at birth (38 weeks), had doubled his birth weight by around 10 weeks and now at 19 weeks I reckon he's tripled it!!! (He was 21lb last time I had him weighed, 3 weeks ago).

He's shot right to the top of the chart (if not off it) for weight and is on the 98th percentile for height, but is in proportion and is a lovely cheerful chap. He's EBF, which makes HVs exclaim in surprise and express admiration that I am feeding him, but actually it is very easy. He is a very efficient feeder and is now down to 2-5 minutes per feed approx every 2 hours in the day, then sleeps through from 10pm to 6-7am. I'm hoping this means his growth is slowing down - until recently he was feeding 4-7 minutes per feed at a much greater intensity (IYKWIM).

I've found a lot of the threads on mumsnet re bigger babies very helpful (and reassuring). One can't help worrying whatever their weight but his dad is 6 foot and his cousin's growth slowed down dramatically when he reached 6 months. Otherwise he's going to be the world's first 6 foot toddler!! Grin

my dd took 13 months!!!

matana · 15/03/2011 13:35

DS was 8lb 1oz. He's 16 weeks and is almost there - 15lbs.

Tgger · 15/03/2011 22:30

Hi, can't remember but much longer than "supposed to".

I remember there was also a guideline that they should triple their weight by age 1, but my two both took about 2 years to triple birth weight Smile.

ethelina · 15/03/2011 23:06

Somewhere around 13-14 weeks I would guess. Boy was 7lb 6oz at birth and at 16 weeks he was 18lb. He's 26 weeks now and I would put him at about ?25lb?

Tgger · 16/03/2011 23:22

Hee hee, my daughter is 2 and 4 months and weighs 25 pounds Smile

DuelingFanjo · 16/03/2011 23:25

my 12 week old is just shy of double his birth weight.

juneybean · 16/03/2011 23:27

Usually meant to double birth weight by 6 months and triple by 12 months :)

LawrieMarlow · 16/03/2011 23:28

It does depend a bit on where you start from. A baby born at 6lb is likely to double its birth weight quicker than a baby born at 12lb

ShowOfHands · 16/03/2011 23:42

By about 9 weeks. She was born on the 50th centile and off the charts within weeks. I know she was 25lbs at 25 weeks. Exclusively bfed too. She was lovely. Rolls on rolls on rolls. She's nearly 4 now, still at the top of the charts but lean and strong and v tall.

Galena · 17/03/2011 09:22

By 7 weeks... She was 1 lb 15 oz at birth and 3 lb 13 oz at 7 weeks. She was, however, born at 27 weeks. Grin

Awww bless your LO Galena!

I guess my DD is on the right track then Juneybean! Its just people look very shocked when they ask how old she is and say 5 months! She is a petite little thing. I got her weighed on Monday and she had gained 1lb in 2 weeks I was quite proud of that as she is EBF!!!

Hehe, I know about petite - DD is now 23months and still less than 19lb! I get my money's worth out of clothes though! Well done with 1lb in 2 weeks. I managed that at one point with DD when she was EBF. Sadly those weight gains are no more... She put on 11.5 oz in the last 6 months!! Can't even blame it on walking as she isn't yet!

sanam2010 · 18/03/2011 16:24

sounds like DD. she went from 50th percentile at birth (was also born at 38 weeks) to 75th, then 85th, then 91st, then 95th and now at 5 month 98th percentile. She hasn't tripled her weight yet but I guess will have done so by six months, she is still gaining about 200g per week.

she is also EBF, as far as I know breastmilk is fattier than formula and obviously than solids (as they tend to be mashed vegetables/fruits) so it's really not that surprising.

is your DC mobile? what I notice with DD is she is still not turning around or sitting unsupported and I wonder if it is her big body and especially her very big head (was 99th percentile head circumference at birth already).

Brasso4 · 19/03/2011 09:54

My LO was 6lb 5 oz and did not double her birth weight until she was well over 7 months, as for triple - not sure we are there yet - 14 months. She only put on 7oz between the beginning of December and end of February. Blush But she does not stop for 1 second!!
