4 year old nightmare behaviour

In the last 2 or 3 weeks, my 4 1/2 year old has suddenly turned into a monster. She can be lovely and her usual self one moment and then just change. She will start screaming over nothing and hit and kick me. She gets put in her room or on the naughty step for this behaviour but she wont stay in her room or on the step. We've talked and talked to her, taken away treats but nothing seems to make a difference.

She has generally been well behavioured in the past and has never hit. I just dont know what is going on. Does anyone have any advice?

Mine sometimes does that. Luckily it's when we are at home and he is still angelic to external eyes.

Mine is tired. Or hungry. have dinner no later than 5 and start the bath straight after that.

also it is the intention to wind you up. I leave mine to have a fit where I can't see, and wait until he decides he's had enough. usually all the toys and cushions are all over the place when I come back, but putting them away is a chance to redeem himself.

It is a hilarious joke apparently to make me so cross I want to throw him across a room (I don't, but I want to) therefore I just leave him to it. no attention means it is over with much quicker.
