7 week old babies eyes

Hi just wondering has anyone any advice. They say a baby should start smiling around the six week mark, as they start to see you doing it but we have noticed that our 7 week old daughter doesnt look at us at all. She only looks to the side but never focuses straight ahead no matter how often we call or put objects in front of her. Is this a common thing and its taking her a bit longer to develop this? Spoke to the health visitor who said i would need to speak to paediatrician who we wont be seeing for another 2-3 weeks.

I dont think they turn towards toys/voices till a bit later on so i wouldn't worry about that.

Does she react to light? I would have thought she would blink/squint at bright lights.

Chances are everything is fine but good idea to speak to the paed, if only to put your mind at rest.

Thanks, yes she does react to light. She wont follow it but does react to it.

I think she sounds normal tbh. I have 3DC, youngest is 6 months and I've had two big smilers and one who rarely smiled, not because he wasn't happy- he was just too busy taking it all in.

It's normal not to follow it at first but she will!
