toddler self weaning

My daughter is 18 months and doesnt look like she is ready to give up her breastmilk anytime soon.I dont want to give up now its fine. I was wondering what age did your child stop breastfeeding on there own.

When my ds was 18 months old I was down to one feed (at bedtime)

I was going away for a night for the first time so stopped a couple of weeks before, one night of crying for about 10 minutes, then nothing...I think he was ready. I still miss it though and that was a few years ago! :)

My sister's kids were weaned at 5, under protest. A friend's DD weaned at 8 when her mother was pg (her mum was happy with feeding her that long and would have carried on if her dd had wished it.) Children don't necessarily self-wean.

I think my ds is in the process of self weaning at 2.3 yo. I chose to stop the night feeds at 16 mo but he continued day time feeds up until I was about 18 weeks pregnant. I don't think he would have stopped himself (had I not been pg and low supply)

He still asks for it once or twice a day but quite often wanders off before I've got my breast out or if he does start a feed he only stays for about 30 seconds.

So we'll see! I don't know much about supply in pregnancy but if it suddenly returns I think he'll probably stop weaning but for now I'm just playing it by ear!

Dd self-weaned very progressively, over a loooong period of time. Last feed, she was nearly 4.5 years.

The last ever time she asked to nurse, 3 or 4 days after her last nursing, she was physically unable to do it, couldn't actually suck, reflex had vanished !! We had a really good laugh together and that was the end.
