2.8 yo DS suddenly upset over the smallest things

My 2.8yo DS has started (in the last few weeks) to be really upset over the smallest things. He's normally very cruisy and laid back and is not overly fussed when other kids do stuff to him eg take toys, shout, play rough etc.

But in the last few weeks he has been getting upset over everything. Not just tantrums (although we have plenty of those too Wink) but really distraught.

Also, he has been a lot more clingy with me, and asking for more cuddles and to be picked up.

Nothing has happened recently to change our circumstances, although he has had a bit of a cough and a runny nose (but he always seems to pick things up from the CM or playgroups - as all toddlers do).

So - is this a normal thing? Has your toddler suddenly become clingy and upset? Should I be taking him to the Dr to be checked out (underlying illness/problem)?

Should I just calm the hell down and accept that this is what toddlers do? Grin

Help!!

My DD (2.8) is often a bit like that if she's poorly. She had a UTI for a while and the only realy symptom was that she was being so grumpy, took me a while to persuade the GP to test her. I think though that at this age they maybe go up a notch in how they understand their surroundings? She's lately got very obsessive about routines/doing things properly but I think it's just her way of exerting her will and independence a bit more. Not really explaining my point very well really. I found that when she had the UTI I was certain there was actually something wrong with her (she was behaving a bit like I do when I have a low-lying illness or infection!) but recently I'm not worried, I just think that she's changing a bit. So a bit inconclusive, sorry! Hopefully someone with more experience will be along in a minute.

Yes - it's things that wouldn't normally bother him - like toast instead of weetabix! Not tantrums but genuinely upset and distraught.

But also just wanting me all the time. As lovely as it is, it's difficult when he's at the CM and I'm at work!

I've got a telephone convo booked with the GP this afternon, to see if I should be taking him in, as I am starting to worry that I should be worrying more - IYKWIM! Grin

my ds (just about a month younger) has gone a bit clingier too recently, as in scared to sleep in his room by himself kinda thing, always ending up in my bed because he seems like not just trying it on but genuinely scared, and a bit anxious at times. he gets really worried hearing noises from the flat upstairs cos he thinks it is dinosaurs and can become quite upset about it esp if overtired. so maybe its an age thing like a phase they have? also if he is slightly ill that makes sense cos they always tend to go clingier when ill?
