2 Month Old Eye Contact

Hi,

I have a baby boy who will be 2 months old in 2 days. At the moment he is making eye contact but only when he is lay down, he will hold eye contact for a while and laugh but then look away. If you sit him up or hold him towards your face he does everything to avoid looking into your eyes.

He seems to look at the TV a lot and out of the window. Is this normal behaviour for a baby this age? Other babies around this age seem to be having a lot more eye contact.

I cant help but be really worried something may be wrong

Not much expertise I'm afraid but wanted to bump and try and give some advice. Its too early I think to be concerned about Autism. Children with autism tend to develop quite normally and then symptoms suddenly appear at about 2 years old I think (correct me if I'm wrong anyone). Also I think its right that at this age babies are very interested in contrasting images/colours/patterns and he is probably getting this from the TV and windows. Perhaps post on Special needs board to get more advice, otherwise contact GP if concerned.

I remember being equally worried when ds was same age. He stared at lights but wouldn't hold eye contact. Fast forward another few weeks and there was eye contact smiles etc. He's now 12 months and a happy engaging little boy.

I now know you don't get smiles and eye contact much really at 8 weeks and you just think your own is worse at it due to mother neurosis!!

They generally look away when they're getting over stimulated. Don't worry very normal x
