When do newborns become less sleepy/more alert?

DS is 6 weeks old and is alert a couple of times in the day, also between 9-11pm and sometimes at 2am Hmm. Roughly when do babies become less sleepy? DD was nothing like this IIRC as she was a nightmare to settle for naps until she was at least a year old!

I really do think it depends on the baby. My DS is now 5 months and has been super alert from day one in the hospital. Always wanting to know whats going on and noseying at everything and everyone - I can relate to your DD in that getting him to nap in the day can sometimes be a nightmare!

I would just take the sleepyness while it last! Wink DS is now at that too little to entertain himself and too big to nap all day stage!

Yes I would say that too. Mine was alert and screaming from day 2. But my sister's DD was mainly asleep for 6 months - they had to wake her with a wet flannel to feed. Varies a lot I think.

My DS is now 7 weeks and has become super nosey in last week or so. His focus is better and wants to see whats happening around him much more. So glad as was beginning to think that the toys we had bought were pointless...Confused

Also wanted to add the niece who needed the wet flannel is a straight A a-level student. Whereas mine's flitty nightmare.

Mine is 10 weeks and is now alertly awake at least 4 times a day. He started gradually about 4 weeks ago. Smile
