21 month son refuses to sit down in bath - stands all the time. had to wash a very sore bottom in the bath as he wouldn't let me near him with wipes and since this has not sat down. Any ideas?

Put him in the bath before the water?

Masses of bubbles so he doesn't see the water?

Bribery - Chocolate buttons when he sits down?

I'd go for the third option, but not everybody is into bribery as much as I am Grin

I just let my stand. He's been standing in the bath as long as he's not had a bath seat. He's fallen once or twice, but never hurt himself. We have a non-slip bath matt in the tub.

Mine stand, rather.

Let him stand? Puor water over him from a jug. Or let him have a shower instead of a bath if he prefers that.

Or get in the bath with him to start of with so he can sit on your lap.

Btw, my sister has a massive scar on her chin from falling over in the bath. And that was with a non-slip mat. It really isn't safe for this age child to be standing in the bath and I'm sure the OP knows this.

I would make bathtime loads of fun - bubbles, toys etc... then if he stands up tell him he will have to get washed and get straight out. Wash him standing up and whip him out. Soon enough sitting down will be a worthwhile compromise.

However... how sore is him bum? If it's hurting when he sits in the water you can see why he'd rather not! If it's still sore try using some barrier cream while he's in the bath.
