Take a baby to a concert?

Hi

My brother and his new wife took their 6 month old baby to an Amy Winehouse concert.

Their friends think this is hugely funny and very hip. I think it was irresponsible. Am I being old-fashioned?

I guess it depends on how close to the speakers they were and how loud the concert was - it could have caused hearing damage (to say nothing of emotional trauma of being exposed to Amy Winehouse at such a young age Wink)

We took DS to the Proms In The Park when he was 9mo - he didn't seem to mind, although the very noisy stompy act made him grimace and wince a bit - we were about 10 "rows" back from the stage though.

depends - my kids have these

not for a concert (although I know someone who used them for her 12 week old twins at a festival), but our dogs do flyball and inside it is very loud - when little they can't say if hurting their ears, plus is our choice to damage our own hearing, it isn't fair to damage theirs (which is much more delicate than ours) - must be comfortable as they both sleep great with them on!

Depends on the baby. A tolerant and portable baby would be fine with ear defenders - i've seen loads of them about when at Glastonbury. We intend taking our DS to Glastonbury year after next but personally would not want to take a baby there as i just think it would be a pain the arse in terms of sanitation etc.

My sister took her daughter to a local live outdoor music gig when she was a few weeks old with no apparent ill effects.

Only if you are prepared to take the baby out and miss some of it if necessary.
