At what age should DS stand up to use the toilet

My DS has just turned 4 and starts school in September. He currently still sits on the toilet and has no interest in learning how to do it standing up (despite watching his father!).

I just wondered whether they are expected to stand up when they start school or are some simply not ready until much later?

There is no expectation. Who will know whether he stands or sits?

He'll stand when he feels comfortable doing so.

I expect if they have a urinal at your DSs school he'll try it there if not before.

Personally I think that if there's just a normal loo its much better for blokes to sit than stand and spray!

He won';t be monitored in the bathroom or made to sstand up (or sit down) so I wouldn't worry about it. I have never seen urinals in primary schools either.

As soon as he sees his friends standing, he'll want to stand too.

ds1 and ds2 did it standing up from the beginning of potty training, so, about 2.5. dh is 41 and he sits down Smile

dgs stood up from about 3 but dh has decided[at 7 that he'd rather sit :)

pranma · 15/02/2011 19:00

74 not 7!!!!!!

At 4 he should have a decent aim, so teach him now if he wants to.

My DH sits too! Too lazy to stand, it would seem.

my boys have never stood...don't know why, they saw their father standing.
They seem to use loo stops to have long chats about wii/ps3/ds games, one sitting on the loo, the other sitting against the bathroom door.
odd, my children, odd...
