sleep day & night

My DS (12wks) only sleeps 30mins at a time without assistance during the day. If I want him to sleep longer I have to rock, bounce, and hold whilst I keep jigging. With all this action he can sleep for 2 to 2.5 hours but it's hard work. Any tips on how to get him to sleep for longer periods without a full workout? (And if he doesn't have a good sleep - longer than 30mins - he's real grumpy and hard work all day).

And at night, still waking! I've heard that 12weeks is a magic number but I'm still waiting for the moment he sleeps like a log through the night. DS tends to wake for a night feed and go back to sleep but will then wake around 5am (even if only just fed for a second time in the night) and need me to move around with him again whilst he sleeps blissfully until 7am and I'm knackered and dreading the next workout?

I'm new to parenting and struggling, so any tips, reassurance, words of wisdom gratefully recieved.

Sounds about right to me.

They take a while to learn to sleep for longer during the day but he will get there... who knows when though?

Night waking is quite normal for a while I am afraid.

at that age my twins only slept for 2 x 40 minute day naps and no matter what i tried they would never sleep any longer. It was uncanny how it was ALWAYS 35 to 40 minutes. it wasnt till their first birthday that day naps got longer, now they will sleep for 1 x 2 to 2.5 hours in the middle of the day (at 18 months)

At night, well it wont be what you want to hear but i am still waiting for them both to sleep through the night, one does but the other still wakes once a night.
