Question for those with older DC's

I have an 18 month old who is generally pretty good at sleeping and has been since she was very young. Other than illness she has been sleeping through the night since about 2 months old (yes I know I should be very thankful), but recently we have had nights with lots of wakings where she was wanting cuddles. She always wants to go back into her cot afterwards (she loves her cot), and often goes back to sleep after we leave the room, but within the hour it starts up again! I am guessing we have a bit of seperation anxiety or possibly bad dreams/over active imagination?

My question really is though, at what age to children generally stop needing parents attention during the night? I was thinking maybe 6 or so, but this is complete guesswork?

My DD stopped wanting to see me when she was about three I think.
