How can I limit my son's screen time and get him to do something else?

My 12 (nearly 13) year old son just wants to spend all his time gaming and he is slowly dropping his other activities. We limit his time on his X-box, so he moves onto his handheld console or the computer sneaking off to his room to play. I don't want to stop completely as he enjoys gaming but I want to get him to do other stuff as well like sport, art and the holy grail of read a book! We are thinking of letting him have alternate days of screen time - one day on and one day off - do you think this will work?? Does anyone have any top tips to share??

Yes- tell him NO!
Old fashioned but effective!
